On 20 July, Sisonke Wellness Foundation had the privilege of partnering with Teens With Purpose for their Grade 9 Subject Choice event, where we were invited to run a mental health program for over 500 learners in Tembisa, Johannesburg. This collaboration was a powerful opportunity to engage with young minds, providing them with essential knowledge and tools to navigate the complexities of mental health.

During our sessions, we focused on key aspects of mental health education, starting with an introduction to what mental health truly means. We then guided the learners on how to recognize signs of mental health struggles in themselves and their peers, emphasising the importance of early identification. Most importantly, we provided practical advice on how to seek help, highlighting the resources available to them and the importance of reaching out.

At Sisonke Wellness Foundation, we are deeply passionate about working with young people because we believe that by planting these seeds of knowledge and awareness, we are cultivating future mental health advocates. Empowering the next generation to understand and prioritise their mental well-being is crucial to creating a society where mental health is openly discussed, supported, and valued.

We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Teens With Purpose on such an impactful event and look forward to continuing our work with young people, helping them to become confident, informed, and compassionate leaders in the mental health space. Together, we are making a lasting difference in the lives of these learners and the broader community.
