We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new online psychosocial support offering, a vital initiative designed to provide free short-term mental health support to individuals who need access to care but are unsure where to begin. At Sisonke Wellness Foundation, we recognise the critical need for accessible mental health resources, particularly in communities where such services are scarce or misunderstood. This new service marks a significant step forward in our mission to make mental health care more accessible and inclusive.
Our dedicated volunteers are at the heart of this initiative, offering compassionate support and guidance to those who reach out for help. Whether someone is facing a personal crisis, struggling with anxiety or depression, or simply feeling overwhelmed, our volunteers are ready to listen and provide the necessary support. But our commitment doesn’t stop there. Our primary goal is to connect individuals with the right mental health resources, professionals, or organisations based on their specific needs. Through thoughtful referrals, we ensure that every person who comes to us receives the most appropriate and effective care available.
This service is just the beginning of our broader vision at Sisonke. We aspire to grow and eventually bring on board graduate mental health professionals who can volunteer their time, receive mentorship, and gain the supervision they need to build their own practices. By partnering with us, these graduates will not only enhance their skills but also play a crucial role in addressing the overwhelming demand for mental health care in South Africa. The reality is stark: there are too few mental health professionals in the country, and those currently in practice are inundated by the sheer volume of people needing help.
Through this initiative, we aim to bring mental health care closer to underprivileged communities, many of whom may not even be aware of what a therapist does or how mental health services can change lives. We are committed to offering affordable access to care, providing psycho-education, and creating safe spaces where individuals can have open conversations about mental health, mental illness, and the stigma that often surrounds these issues.
At Sisonke Wellness Foundation, we believe that everyone deserves access to quality mental health support, regardless of their background or circumstances. Our new online psychosocial support service is a testament to this belief, and we are excited to see the positive impact it will have on the lives of those who need it most. Together, we can create a more mentally healthy and resilient society.
